Each year millions of people buy fresh cut trees throughout the city and the US for the Christmas holiday. After the holiday is over, many families aren’t sure what to do with them. In Chicago, you have a great option to recycle your tree!

This year the City’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program will run from January 6th through the 20th at 25 parks across the city. The trees collected will be shredded and turned into mulch that’s used by the Chicago Parks District and also made available to Chicago residents free of charge.

The city does not offer pick up for the trees, but simply take it to any of these park districts and do a great thing for our environment. Please do not leave your Christmas tree in the alley or your trash cans. They can become a fire hazard, so please consider recycling it!
