Amid comparisons to the laws in Nazi Germany that preceded the Holocaust, the Chicago City Council agreed Wednesday to stop doing business with Arizona-based companies to protest that state’s tough new immigration law.

The spirited City Council debate mirrors what’s going in the nation on an issue that, Ald. Jim Balcer (11th) said, has “divided our nation like the Vietnam War.”

Ald. Brian Doherty (41st), argued that Chicago has no business telling another “sovereign state” how to attack an immigration problem that’s a whole lot bigger than ours.
