A new State of Illinois law requires that senior citizen homeowners must re-apply annually for their Senior Exemptions beginning this year.  All homeowners who qualified for either exemption for the 2009 property tax year are being mailed applications by the Cook County Assessor’s Office.  If you do not receive your application or have recently turned 65 years of age, please download the applications here: Senior Citizen Exemption and Senior Freeze Exemption.  Both forms are available at the ward office as well.

In order to receive the Senior Citizen Exemption you must be at least 65 years of age, and the address for which you are seeking the exemption for must belong to you and be your primary place of residence.  In addition to these requirements, you must also have made less than $55,000 in 2009 to quality for the Senior Freeze Exemption.

Please contact us if you require assistance filing out either form.  If you are filling out the Senior Freeze Exemption, please have your 2009 tax return available. A notary is also available at our office to notarize your application (please bring your Driver’s License or State ID).
