Public Safety

Public Safety
Alderman Waguespack is committed to keeping our ward safe while moving forward with the reforms needed to improve the Chicago Police Department. There are three police districts and 9 Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) Beats in the 32nd Ward. Staff from the ward office regularly attend CAPS meetings in our community and are in constant contact with the police districts. Please communicate any community safety related concerns you may have to our office or directly to the CAPS offices. We encourage you to sign up for our newsletter, as this is the fastest way for you to receive updates and alerts regarding police issues. It takes a combined effort of residents, police, and your government to address crime issues and find solutions. We are dedicated to facilitating the communication necessary to ensure that effort results in a safer and improved community for all of us.
Police District & CAPS Information

When it comes to public safety, it’s important to get involved. Here’s how you can do it.
Attend your CAPS meeting
We strongly encourage residents to attend their CAPS meetings where you can get to know the police officers that patrol your beat and relay your concerns directly to them. This is the best way to discuss police issues that are important to you and to learn about what officers are doing to keep you safe.
Start a Block Club
One of the most important methods of preventing crime is for neighbors to work together. Active neighbors can be a strong deterrent to crime and can work effectively to report crime and catch those breaking the law in your community. Consider starting a phone tree with your neighbors, a community watch, or a Block Club.
Report Crime
Please do not hesitate to report crimes, even if you think someone has already reported it. If a problem is not reported, it’s as if it never happened. When you call 911, dispatchers prioritize calls based on urgency and even if an officer does not arrive on the scene immediately, a log is kept and the Police Department is notified of your call. Call 911 to report a crime in progress and 311 to report a crime after the fact.
