On July 27, 2020, the City of Chicago launched the Chicago Housing Assistance Portal and announced more than $33 million of relief for renters and property owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lightfoot, DFSS Commissioner Lisa Morrison Butler and the Department of Housing Commissioner Marisa Novara - click on "Housing Assistance Funds".
The Chicago Housing Assistance Portal is available at Chi.gov/housinghelp and serves as a tool to match residents with the rental or mortgage assistance program that will best meet their need. After completing an inquiry survey, residents will be routed to either the DFSS Rental Assistance Program (RAP); DOH COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant Program; DOH Mortgage Assistance Program; or the Illinois Housing Development Authority Statewide Housing Assistance. Those financially impacted the hardest will be eligible for Chicago Housing Assistance grant funding that has been set aside for the lowest earners.
Specifically for DFSS, the Rental Assistance Program Process has been streamlined by translating the paper application process into an online application portal. The portal will be open for 10 days which on started July 27, 2020 and will close at 11:59 p.m. on August 10, 2020.
