When Chicago has heavy snow falls, our office can receive calls from seniors and people with disabilities for assistance clearing snow on their sidewalks and walk ways. While we do our best to help, we do need additional assistance and are looking for volunteers. Ideally, this would be a situation where we can connect you with someone in your neighborhood where you can create a regular relationship. Here's what you should know before volunteering:
This is volunteering, so we ask that the people who volunteer choose not to accept money or other compensation from the folks who need help.
This is not a City supported program - anything that happens while you're volunteering is your responsibility.
Ideally, you should have your own shovel and salt so that you don't have to enter into a seniors home or garage. If you don't have these things, our office may be able to assist.
When we get a phone call from a person in need, we will reach out to you to see if you can help them that day.
You're an awesome person for making time to help your neighbors and we all appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.
If you are interested, please fill out this form. We will confirm receipt of the email and contact you when assistance is needed.
